We have all heard or seen certain individuals cry “Fake News!” whenever something is reported that they don’t like (you know, like the truth). In fact, the term has become so ubiquitous in society that it’s stating to become associated with “news I don’t want to read” rather than “false news.”

Canada Laughs Rumoured to be Taken Over by US-Based Agency
While comedy isn’t traditionally something considered “geeky,” I am definitely a passionate comedy geek. And over the weekend, fans of Canadian comedy were dealt a devastating blow.
Rumours of the end of Canada Laughs as we know it took over social media in the wake of a deal between Just for Laughs (JFL) and SiriusXM Canada. If these rumours turn out to be true (which, let’s be honest, they probably are), it could change the face of Canadian comedy, and not in a good “oh Chris Evans got a beard” kind of way.

Five Reasons You Should Be Watching The Good Place
While the news has always had a certain degree of terribleness to it, you cannot deny that these past few weeks can best be described as some sort of hellish landscape. Thankfully, The Good Place returned to our screens last night, injecting humour into our lives. The show, brought to you by Michael Schur (who you may also recognize from another one of the best shows on TV, Brooklyn 99), is in its third season, and stars Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D’Arcy Carden. If you aren’t watching one of the smartest and funniest shows on TV, here are just a few reasons why you should start.
Five Reasons You Should Be Watching Legends Of Tomorrow
For those who love the wacky heroics, wild adventures, and incredible stories, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is the best show you aren’t watching. Admittedly, the series had a rocky beginning, with an uneven first season. All the elements were there – B-level characters from existing Arrowverse shows combined with Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill playing the time travelling Time Lord with a Box Time Agent with a Waverider, Rip Hunter, a plot line that tug at the heart strings, and a formidable big bad. The problem was that the show took itself way too seriously. Thankfully, this formula was thrown out into the time vortex at the start of season two, and the show has continuously gotten better ever since. Now, they travel through time fixing thing that have gone wrong (typically due to their own actions). If you aren’t watching Legends of Tomorrow each week, here are a few reasons why you should give it a chance:
New Doctor Who Trailer Arrives And Makes Us All Wish We Had A TARDIS
I will stop writing about trailers when amazing ones stop getting released, I promise. Until then, let’s all collectively freak out over the new Doctor Who trailer, released just this morning. Giving us exactly enough to make even the most impatient of us wish we could grab a TARDIS and emerge on October 7th, the trailer features the Doctor and her companions, a spaceship, Jakku?, and hints at this Doctor’s personality. If anyone was worried that the show would fundamentally change, this trailer should alleviate those concerns. There seems to be just as much corridor running, sonic screwdriver using, and assertions of authority in unfamiliar situations as before.
Captain Marvel Trailer Finally Lands And It Is Amazing
The highly anticipated trailer for the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, Marvel’s first solo woman-led film, has finally been released. As a die-hard member of the Carol Corps, let me be the first to assure you that it is indeed absolutely amazing. For a short trailer, it packed in a lot, including action, adventure, mysterious origins, and even aliens. I mean, what more could you want!
Nerdy News You Need to Know: She-Ra Edition
Lately, it has become nearly impossible to keep up-to-date on everything; staying on top of the incredibly fast-paced news cycle is overwhelming enough. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we miss news about things we actually like (I nearly missed the She-Ra trailer, which borders on blasphemy in my world, for example). This is where Geeks in Art is here to help; by rounding up all the nerdy news you need to know that you may have missed over the past week.
This Week in Geek: Trade Paperbacks and Graphic Novels
It’s Wednesday! That means a new batch of comic books, trade paperbacks, and graphic novels are coming your way. At Geeks in Art, we know it can be hard to keep up with weekly series, as much as you may want. Thankfully, you can still enjoy your favourite stories through trade paperbacks and graphic novels.
This Week in Geek: Trade Paperbacks and Graphic Novels
Staying on top of your favourite comics can be difficult, especially if you have an otherwise incredibly busy life. I know I can barely remember to put on pants when I meet the medicine delivery person at the door (because I also can’t remember to actually pick stuff up when I am out). For those of us with scattered brains and busy lives, trade paperbacks and graphic novels are the best way to enjoy comic books and the medium as a whole.
