Still Dry…..
Dry Feb is a fundraising initiative from/for The Canadian Cancer Society. Being sober for a cause.
I decided to participate for personal reasons and since I believe it’s a worthy cause which made me feel compiled to do my part. So far I have raised $200 which is 40% of my goal. A huge thank-you to everyone who has donated, shared the link or offered encouragement, please let’s keep it up !
So I am now one week in and offering my update.
Week One Update
This past weekend was the first DryFeb weekend. We had dinner company and it was Super Bowl weekend. What a kick off !
On Saturday evening we had guests over for dinner, and without really noticing it, either myself or my husband had gotten everyone a drink, everyone except for me. And I think if I had been preoccupied with having to stay sober it might have bothered me. Only instead I was focused on preparing a delicious meal and talking with friends. I like that when you visit the DryFeb webpage they recommend being social and not shutting yourself in. It’s healthy to be reminded that booze isn’t always the secret to being the life of the party.
Super Bowl Sunday has always been an all or nothing either event for me. Either I’m out at a bar being noisy, getting drunk and eating as much as I physically can or it’s spent at home not remotely interested, clearly it’s not about the football for me. Only I did something different this year. My husband went to a bar to drink and cheer, while I stayed home and actually watched the game (ok I listened to the announcers while I untangled a giant mess of yarn), but I enjoyed it. Even better I actually watched Lady Gaga’s half time show and it was AMAZING. So there it is, I stayed home and truly enjoyed the Super Bowl in my own company, while sober for a cause.
Overall my first week has been a success and I look forward to updating you again next week.
