My Second Dry Feb Valentine’s Day

Did Dry Feb Get In The Way Of Your Valentine’s Day Romance

Romantic dinner with wine

All that Valentine’s Day mush can make some of us want to drink

For some romantics out there Valentine’s Day is a big deal. Those big Valentine’s plans can often include a nice meal, and if you are enjoying a nice romantic meal it’s easy enough to pair that with a nice glass of wine or imported beer.

Last year I paired my nice meal with some sparkling water and a splash of grapefruit juice in a wine glass. I honestly didn’t feel like I was missing out.

This year is different, my husband is out of town for work, I spent my afternoon and evening chauffeuring our daughter to her first CBT Group session and then dragging her brother along with us to her winter softball workout.

This year even though it might have been the least romantic Valentine’s Day ever if I wasn’t participating in Dry Feb I would have been looking forward to ending my day with a lovely glass of red wine, in fact I would be doing that right now.

Which brings us in my Halfway check in.

Two Weeks Down For Dry Feb

Two Weeks Down For Dry Feb

I kind of wish I could celebrate with a drink.

For the most part I don’t drink very regularly these days and last year I found my Dry Feb experience to be very positive. So it is possible that I was feeling overlying confident at the beginning of this. I wouldn’t say that at any point I’m upset to go without alcohol. I will admit that I might have enjoyed my post snow shovelling coffee more if it had had some Bailey’s in it. I also might have cared about the SuperBowl if I had been indulging in some beer; I wasn’t and so I didn’t.  I’ve had friends over and enjoyed booze free visits. I’ve also had conversations with my children that end with me having to remind myself of my commitment.

Let me just sneak over here for a moment

We all process our cancer grief differently, for me I have found being one of thousands of people who commit their February to being dry in support of those dealing with cancer is helpful.
