Gift Ideas
Everyone has that family member or acquaintance – you know, the one you’re not super keen on but you sort of have warm feelings for anyway. You might not agree with her political views, her opinions about your career and love life, or her commentary on current affairs, but that doesn’t mean finding the perfect gift has to be complicated. To save you a ton of time, and a lot of hassle, we have a few gift ideas. These will keep Aunt Ida happy (or at least quiet), without resulting in family drama or a blown holiday budget.
Candle
While a candle isn’t the most creative of gift ideas, it’s also a sure thing. No one is ever super excited to get a candle, but no one hates a candle either. As far as gifts go, a candle is almost aggressively non-offensive. Candles can be dressed up by adding a fancy holder, or given as is. If you want to avoid future complaints about the gift, try to find an unscented candle, or one without an overwhelming scent.
A Book
Regardless of where you fall or Ida fall on the political spectrum, we can all agree that misleading scientific studies are infuriating. Help Aunt Ida figure out which Facebook stories to share and which to one-finger scroll past with the gift of this entertaining but educational guide. Author Dr. Joe Schwartz uses a blend of humour and easy to understand language to demystify the field.
An Ugly Christmas Sweater
This is probably the most passive aggressive suggestion on the list, so exercise caution with this one. Not only will Aunt Ida have to wait almost eleven months to use the gift, she will only have about one month in which to wear it. For bonus points you can really sell it by enthusiastically telling her how in style ugly sweaters are.
A Mug
If you’re looking for an easy gift idea that is sure to please, consider one of our Geeky Gifts. Everyone loves a mug! And if you’re worried about offending with a cheeky phrase, we have have many others to choose from. Mimi also accepts custom orders, and can tailor a mug or other gift item to your Aunt Ida’s tastes, whatever they may be.
Artwork
Art is certainly subjective, but there are certain generic prints that are usually safe to give as gifts. If you happen to know how Aunt Ida has decorated her home, you can choose one that compliments her decor. She may feel compelled to hang it, and then be forced to think about her crazy relative who gave it to her all year round.
Good luck!
