Geek Weddings And Why They Are So Amazing

We Adore Geek Weddings

Some Blue Things for The Big Day

So themed weddings are huge these days; which we love.

And Geek Weddings are a pretty big deal in the world of themed weddings, just ask Pinterest (We LOVE this even more).

I am very biased towards the Geek Weddings, as my own wedding featured a Harry Potter Golden Snitch wedding band set and a very Doctor Who themed reception.

5 Awesome Graphic Novels For People Who Are Bored With Superheroes

Graphic Novels

When you mention comic books or graphic novels to most people, they automatically think of caped crusaders flying around beating the bad guys. There are, of course, many comics and graphic novels collecting those types of adventures. Superhero comics are an underrated medium. A skilled creative team can do a lot with a superhero comic. Some of the best stories address issues like sexuality, racism, sexism, and class imbalances.

However, sometimes you don’t want to have to learn 50 plus years of company lore just to read a single story. Even if you normally love these types of tales, superhero fatigue is a very real thing. Variety is the spice of every healthy media diet, including comic books and graphic novels. Thankfully there are a ton of absolutely amazing comic books and graphic novels that don’t centre around good guys in masks.

A Doctor Who Passion That Pulled Me Out Of Depression

Truth Time

When Ashley and I started this website we wanted to build a community where people could find solace in the geek community and the many stories of surviving impending doom.  Part of that requires some brutal honesty on our parts about those times when dreams of heros and a madman with a box are the only thing that allow you to function.

Doctor Who For Every Mood: Scary | Geeks In Art

DoctorWhoTV

We all like a good scare every now and then. That rush of adrenaline, a slightly execrated heartbeat, and a desperate need to know what happens next drive many of our favourite scary shows and movies.  Doctor Who in particular has an interesting relationship with scares and frights. It is both a family show and one that has featured some of the scariest monsters in sci-fi history. In fact, the phrase “hide behind the sofa” was literally created to describe the experience many children had while watching the show in its early days. If you’re a Doctor Who fan and you like nothing more than a really good scary episode, check out these creepy episodes from the revival series. Be warned, there are spoilers ahead.

My Child Wants To Share Books – And Ones I’ll Like

A Natural Love Of Books

So recently my daughter turned 11.  I was a little on edge because we see little cracks of teenager peeking through once and a while. Somewhere in the last few years gifts have become more electronic than whimsical. Thankfully reading has come naturally to my little lovely, and she enjoys it.  So I have always been able to add some books into the mix for good measure. Graphic novels were an important part of early reading for her.

Baby Mouse, Jem and Holograms, and Adventure Time were favourites of hers.

5 Geeky Things Guaranteed To Cheer You Up (At Least A Bit)

Cheer

It looks like despite the slightly longer days, winter has returned. For some of us, the dreary snow reflects our dreary moods. I, for one, am tempted to crawl back under the covers until at least spring. Sadly, that isn’t always possible. Don’t worry, though, there are still things you can do even if semi-annual hibernation isn’t possible. We’ve compiled a short list of geeky things guaranteed to cheer you up (at least for a little bit).

Journal Spilling To Renew Inspiration

Are You Feeling Creatively Drawn Out?

I know that I was

Earlier this week Ashley posted A Brief Guide To The Sanity Saving Magic That Is A Bullet Journal.  She writes excellently about the art of bullet journalling and how it can save the sanity of those of us who are still preferential to paper and pen instead of the tapping of a keyboard.  And that is a skill I have actually been looking to learn so I personally found her post very helpful, and I am going to look into a moleskine journal.

However following the Christmas rush to get personal gifts done I have been feeling creatively drained. Organization and writing were coming well to me and my house cleaning was reaching a high point.  The kids and I were enjoying each other’s company but painting and creating was difficult.

So I discovered a new journalling method and it was Journal Spilling To The Rescue

A Brief Guide To The Sanity Saving Magic That Is A Bullet Journal

Bullet Journal

Ashley Perna/Geeks In Art

If you are the type of person who prefers analog to digital, especially when it comes to organization, the Bullet Journal might be the perfect thing for you. Created by Ryder Carroll, a digital product designer, bullet journals are more than just a way to schedule your week. They blend mindfulness and organization in a way that can inspire you to actually get things done. One of the best things about this system is that you can easily customize it to suit your own needs. There are an endless number of variations on this method of organization. You can make your bullet journal as complex or as simple as you’d like. As long as it is fulfilling its purpose, you can’t do it wrong. I don’t know about you, but I am a huge fan of something that I can’t screw up.

Win A Gift Box That’s Bigger On The Inside | Geeks In Art

Easter is a time for celebration, family, and eating a tonne of chocolate. Literally; a tonne. Treats and temptations are literally everywhere in the weeks and days leading up to Easter. It would be foolish to walk past that much chocolate without making an investment. Once it gets home, however, most of us need to find spots to stash it away, lest we consume every last piece in one sitting.

Some people use baskets to conceal their treats. Others may prefer to use jars. Here at Geeks In Art, we love using our geek-inspired boxes to hide all sorts of secrets, trinkets, and goodies. Take a look at our four favourite gift boxes and click the pictures to find out how you can bring one home today. Or, if you’re feeling lucky, you can enter our Easter Social Media Contest!
